His reply follows a recent quote from Donald Trump, accusing him of being a &#8216;<em>drug leader<\/em>&#8216;. At the same time, the US administration released sanctions against the South American leader and his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/petrogustavo\/status\/1981797756290183616\" rel=\"nofollow\">On X<\/a>, Gustavo Petro stated he had chosen lawyer Daniel Kovalik to defend him in this new case. The Treasury Department\u2019s Office of Foreign Assets Control just added his family to the <em>Clinton List<\/em>. In other words, this freezes their properties and financial assets under US jurisdiction. The White House also accuses his counterpart of doing &#8216;<em>nothing to stop it<\/em>&#8216;, denied by Petro. Consequently, Trump decided to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/fr\/am%C3%A9riques\/20251019-les-etats-unis-vont-arr%C3%AAter-leur-versement-aides-financi%C3%A8res-contre-narcotrafic-la-colombie-trafic-de-drogue-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">end<\/a> aid to Colombia<\/strong>. However, it is not clear if he is the sole decision maker on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, Donald Trump has been repeatedly spotted spreading <strong>fake news<\/strong>. He declared having solved 8 wars, which has been largely <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/middle-east-eight-wars-trump-ended-fact-check-ff41789ca242462c1c0ab65eb4ae8c7e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">debunked<\/a>. Fact-checkers also highlighted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/graphics\/politics\/trump-claims-database\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tens of thousands of other false and misleading claims from the billionaire<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, it is not clear what Trump aims for with those assumptions. Especially when the medias widely view the war on drugs as a policy failure. Instead, harm reduction and legalization have proven their efficiency in public health and market regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">US Navy strengthens operations in the Caribbean Sea<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Vehemence against Colombia is part of a broader targeting of the entire Caribbean Sea. There, the US Armed Forces continue to strike vessels suspected of transporting narcotics. The United Nations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/press-releases\/2025\/10\/un-experts-condemn-coercive-intervention-venezuela-united-states\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">condemns<\/a> the strategy, considered as &#8216;<em>extrajudicial executions<\/em>&#8216;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite UN warnings, the US Navy just deployed the world&#8217;s largest aircraft carrier in the area. Powered by nuclear reactors, <strong>USS Gerald R. Ford<\/strong> may serve as a base for future attacks against South America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the risks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/24\/politics\/venezuela-cocaine-trafficking-routes-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">land strikes may hit Venezuela<\/a>. The Department of State also published a 50-million-dollar warrant aiming to capture <strong>Nicolas Maduro<\/strong>. U.S. executives accuse him of leading the Cartel of the Suns, but its existence is widely disputed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, Colombia and Peru produce more than 85% of the coca leaves, according to the UNODC. The plant is essential to produce <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/kanard.fr\/cocaine-effets-risques-dosage-prix-tout-savoir\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cocaine<\/a><\/strong>, a highly addictive stimulant. The drug transits to the US via Ecuador, Mexico and Venezuela.
